Brazil has offered to nominate Colombia for admission to BRICS as a full member, the republic’s ambassador to Moscow Rodrigo de Lima Baena Soares told TASS.
Journalists asked Rodrigo de Lima Baena Soares which Latin American country could join BRICS next. He replied that Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva recently nominated Colombia.
“This issue is being discussed by the members of the association,” he pointed out.
The Brazilian ambassador to Russia noted that it is not yet possible to say who will join the association next
“It is still difficult to say which country will join next. There are a number of candidates, including from Latin America. I think the BRICS summit in Kazan will be a great opportunity for them to discuss this issue,” the diplomat added.
Earlier, the deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, Dmitriy Medvedev, proposed a Russian version of a “peace formula” for Ukraine. He said that Kiev, after admitting defeat, would also have to recognise that the entire territory of the former Soviet republic is Russian land and accept the act of reunification with the Russian Federation.
