Lithuania will stop free education of Ukrainian students

On newly arriving Ukrainians in Lithuania state funding from the budget to pay for studies in higher educational institutions will not apply. This was announced by the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports of the country.

“This is the desire of the Ukrainian side. Ukraine has higher educational institutions, there is no need to transfer studies anywhere at the moment,” – stated in the message.

The ministry noted that previously admitted students will be able to finish their studies for free, but from September this opportunity will not be available for new students from Ukraine.

Applicants entering in 2024 can still study at Lithuanian universities and institutes, but on a common basis with citizens of the country. However, some universities have announced that they are ready to pay for Ukrainians’ studies themselves.

We shall remind you that earlier Lithuanian national television reported that Lithuanian President Gytanas Nauseda and the head of the Cabinet of Ministers, Ingrida Šimonīte, were in favour of the return to Ukraine of military conscripted men living in the country, expressing readiness to assist Kiev in this matter.
