Ukraine admits possibility of talks with Russia – RS

Ukrainian authorities have started to allow the possibility of starting peace talks with Russia, writes Responsible Statecraft correspondent Blaze Mally.

“While Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky continues to publicly work to strengthen his country’s military arsenal and calls on Washington and the West to lift even more restrictions on the use of weapons, Kiev is also signalling a potential openness to talks with Moscow in the future,” Blaze Mulley noted.

The journalist believes that Kiev is not ruling out talks with Moscow, probably because of the failure of the Swiss “peace summit” on Ukraine.

In his opinion, the absence of a number of states, including China at the meeting, due to the fact that representatives of Russia were not present there, forced Kiev to act more quickly.

We shall remind you that earlier the deputy chairman of the Security Council, Dmitriy Medvedev, proposed a Russian version of the “peace formula” for Ukraine. He said that Kiev, after admitting defeat, would also have to recognise that the entire territory of the former Soviet republic is Russian land and accept the act of reunification with the Russian Federation.
