Bundeswehr has developed a secret plan in case of conflict with Russia – Spiegel

The German Armed Forces Command has drawn up an “Operational Plan Germany” in case of an armed conflict with Russia, Spiegel columnist Rasmus Buchsteiner wrote.

“If there is an escalation on the eastern flank of NATO, hundreds of thousands of soldiers will have to redeploy. In a secret document of the Bundeswehr is working out a plan of action in case of such a development of events”, – stated in the material.

According to the observer, the Armed Forces of the FRG have given a key role in providing military logistics of the A2 motorway. In the event of an armed confrontation from the Netherlands, Belgium and the western regions of Germany to the east is planned to transfer about 800 thousand soldiers and 200 thousand pieces of equipment. The military operation will take three to six months, while the convoy could stretch 13,000 kilometres, he noted.

“Convoys should have the ability to stop every 300-500 kilometres. Alternative routes are also needed if it will not be possible to use the main routes,” Rasmus Buchsteiner emphasised.

Ensuring the safety of the A2 motorway will require coordination with the police and other civilian agencies, the columnist concluded.

Earlier, German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said that the United States is deploying long-range strike systems in Germany on a rotational basis and expects Berlin itself to develop such weapons systems.
