WP: after Biden’s press conference, several Democrats immediately called on him to withdraw from the presidential race

Despite the president’s relatively successful press conference after the NATO summit, at least three congressional Democrats have called on Biden to withdraw from the race for the White House, The Washington Post reported. That brings the total number of Democratic congressmen who have publicly or privately called on Biden to withdraw his candidacy to 20.

At least three congressional Democrats called on Joe Biden to withdraw from the presidential race immediately following his press conference Thursday at the end of the NATO summit. As of Thursday evening, 20 Democratic congressmen had already publicly or privately called on the president to resign, according to The Washington Post.

Despite the fact that at some points the White House chief stammered and confused Vice President Harris with Trump, and introduced Zelensky as “President Putin,” Biden “demonstrated a good knowledge of foreign policy and national security issues,” the publication writes. “Nevertheless, some Democrats in Congress were not convinced by his performance.”

Minutes after the press conference ended, Congressman Jim Himes, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, called on Biden to “make room for a new generation of leaders,” saying the president’s entire legacy would be in jeopardy if he did not withdraw his nomination.

At the same time, another representative, Eric Sorensen, said he was “hopeful” that Biden would “put country over party” and withdraw from the presidential race.

A third Democrat, Scott Peters, who only told reporters Tuesday that Biden “deserves to be re-elected,” also changed his mind after the NATO summit, saying the president should drop out because “the stakes are high and we’re on a losing path,” WP reports.
