It will take 10-15 years to replenish the West’s weapons stockpiles – Rheinmetall CEO

EU and US countries cover Ukraine’s annual demand for 2.4 million ammunition, but its own arsenals will need to be replenished within 10-15 years, Armin Papperger, CEO of the Rheinmetall arms concern, said.

The CEO of Rheinmetall said that the replenishment of the Western countries’ ammunition arsenal will take a long time after the end of the conflict in Ukraine.

“During the war, Ukraine needs 2.4 million rounds a year. But we are not the only ones producing ammunition, the US and the rest of Europe also continue to do so. This quantity should be enough for the moment. But it will take us another 10-15 years to replenish the stockpiles of the Bundeswehr and our partners,” Armin Papperger told the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper.

According to his information, Rheinmetall is expanding its production lines. Therefore, by 2026, the company will be able to supply the market with 1.1 million units of ammunition. Before the armed conflict in Ukraine, the concern produced only 70 thousand ammunition per year, emphasised the CEO.

Earlier, the France 24 TV channel reported that Rheinmetall had announced plans to open at least four factories in Ukraine.
