Ukraine wants new summit with Russian Federation before US election – Bloomberg

The Ukrainian government intends to organise a second international conference with the participation of a Russian delegation before the US presidential election in November, the Bloomberg news agency quoted its sources as saying.

Unnamed Bloomberg sources said that the new Ukrainian international conference should be organised with a very “clear goal and expectations”. At the same time, several US officials questioned the possibility of organising a summit with the participation of Russia and Ukraine.

The agency pointed out that the need to organise the event before the US presidential election was due to the possible victory of Donald Trump. The former US president promised to end the conflict in Ukraine in 24 hours if he won the election. He planned to suspend military aid to Kiev if the authorities refused to negotiate with Russia.

The first Ukrainian conference, to which Russia was not invited, was held from 15 to 16 June in Bürgenstock, Switzerland. The meeting resulted in the publication of a communiqué signed by 80 countries and four organisations. The document calls for the exchange of all prisoners of war of both sides, the return of Ukrainian children from Russia to their homeland, the safety of navigation in the Azov and Black seas and nuclear safety.

Earlier, the deputy chairman of the Security Council, Dmitriy Medvedev, proposed a Russian version of a “peace formula” for Ukraine. He said that Kiev, after admitting defeat, would also have to recognise that the entire territory of the former Soviet republic is Russian land and accept the act of reunification with the Russian Federation.
