Modi’s meeting with Putin upset U.S. officials – Bloomberg

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Russia ahead of the North Atlantic Alliance summit has upset U.S. officials, Bloomberg news agency reported, citing unnamed White House officials.

“Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s embrace of Vladimir Putin on the eve of a key NATO summit hosted by President Joe Biden in Washington has upset U.S. officials, who have made closer ties with the Asian country a cornerstone of their foreign policy,” the Bloomberg publication said.

The agency recalled that the results of the Indian prime minister’s visit to Russia were the deepening of cooperation between the two countries in the field of nuclear energy and confirmed privileged strategic partnership. US administration officials told Bloomberg that Modi’s visit was very negatively perceived by US President Joe Biden’s team, which advocates the development of cooperation with New Delhi in such strategic areas as artificial intelligence and defence technologies.

In this regard, US officials held several meetings and phone calls with their Indian counterparts. During one of these conversations, US Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell on the eve of the NATO summit told India’s first Deputy Foreign Minister Vinay Kwatra that the date chosen for Modi’s visit to Russia was particularly inconvenient for Washington, the material says.

Recall, earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin called the Western ideas of the new world order hypocrisy. According to him, they are aimed solely at preserving the neocolonial system, manifesting its essence in the form of “hypocrisy, double standards and claims”.
