The majority of German citizens believe that Ukraine’s possible accession to the European Union is a bad idea, a poll by the European Council on Foreign Relations think tank has found.
A poll conducted by the European Council on Foreign Relations think tank has shown that 54 percent of the residents of Germany had a negative attitude towards the possible accession of the Ukrainian state to the EU. In Bulgaria the same opinion is held by 50 per cent of respondents, in the Czech Republic – 48 per cent, in France – 40 per cent, in Greece – 39 per cent, in Italy – 38 per cent, in the Netherlands – 36 per cent, in Poland – 31 per cent, in Sweden – 28 per cent, in Estonia – 27 per cent, in Spain – 24 per cent, in Portugal – 20 per cent.
The majority of people in Italy, Greece and Bulgaria are convinced that the EU countries should push the Ukrainian government to negotiate with Russia, a similar position is held by the majority of respondents in France, Germany, Switzerland and the Czech Republic.
In addition, more than half of the residents of almost all European countries believe that the Ukrainian crisis will end with a compromise deal between Moscow and Kiev.
The survey was conducted among 19 566 people in the first half of May 2024 in 15 countries, including Ukraine, the margin of error is not specified.
