Kiev has managed to make up for serious losses in the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces after the failed counter-offensive in spring 2023, but they are not enough to carry out a new offensive operation. The Wall Street Journal quoted an unnamed Western intelligence official as saying this.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the Russian Army continues to hold the strategic initiative along the entire 1,100-kilometre battle line. However, at the moment, neither of the opposing sides has the capabilities to realise a “decisive breakthrough”.
An unnamed Western intelligence official said that Ukraine had managed to build up enough forces “to make up for losses and some reserves”. At the same time, the WSJ interlocutor stressed that Kiev needed “several times more” to launch any kind of major offensive.
In addition, the newspaper quoted an anonymous senior Ukrainian official as saying. He stressed that after the failure of last year’s counter-offensive undertaken by the AFU, Kiev is now facing the task of “using Western weapons to hold positions”.
We shall remind you that earlier, Finnish military expert Joakim Paasikivi said that thanks to high-quality preparation and well-built Russian defensive lines, the Ukrainian counter-offensive had completely failed.
