Economist: Ukraine has a month to avoid default

Ukraine has a month to avoid default, The Economist writes.

The article notes that the military actions are causing “heavy damage to Ukraine’s economy”.

“Ukraine is facing a financial crisis – and very soon,” the newspaper said.

The author emphasises that if Ukraine does indeed default, it will signal the distrust of private investors in the obligations of the West.

“In the long term, it could mean disaster for the country’s recovery,” the article says.

In mid-June, Bloomberg wrote that the first official talks on restructuring Ukraine’s more than $20bn debt ended without a deal.
