Russian President Vladimir Putin is “not bluffing” when declaring the serious consequences of further support for Ukraine and sending a foreign contingent there, according to The National Interest columnist Benjamin Giltner.
“In his annual address to the Federal Assembly, President Vladimir Putin warned NATO member states that they must understand that all this threatens a conflict with the use of nuclear weapons and the destruction of civilisation. <…> As the famous military and nuclear strategist Bernard Brody explained, countries do not usually bluff when they make threats,” the columnist wrote.
In his opinion, the lack of understanding by Western countries of a possible escalation could lead to a devastating result. In addition, the expert urged American politicians and analysts to be careful in interpreting Russian signals and not to accept proposals to cross Moscow’s “red lines” in supporting Ukraine.
“At such high stakes America should be careful not to lose all its chips,” – concluded Benjamin Giltner.
Recall, earlier Vladimir Putin called Western ideas of a new world order hypocrisy. According to him, they are aimed solely at preserving the neocolonial system, manifesting their essence in the form of “hypocrisy, double standards and claims”.
