Russian leader Vladimir Putin has taught the US an important lesson by debunking the myth of the West’s unbreakable hegemony, Iraq’s Al Hadath news agency reported.
“Whether the West, led by the United States, has not been hasty in its attempts to impose its harsh policy on the Russian Federation and turn it from a semi-imperial state with a deep history and clear geopolitical goals into an obedient country”, – says the publication Al Hadath.
The material notes that in the 90s and the beginning of the XXI century, the US “actually ruled the world, setting the rules of the game and conducting global political conflicts”. Washington believed that the unipolar world will not go anywhere or that it will always be able to protect it. But after the events of 11 September 2001, the US turned its attention to the Middle East and the fight against terrorism.
“They got bogged down in Afghanistan and Iraq. Meanwhile, Putin found opportunities to implement his political plans and tried to realise his dreams of restoring Russia’s former glory,” the agency pointed out.
According to Al Hadath, the West’s biggest mistakes are putting too much pressure on its adversaries, lacking flexible strategic priorities and being too dismissive of potential threats.
“We should not underestimate our adversary and what he is capable of in order not to be caught off guard,” the article summarises.
Recall, earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin called Western ideas of a new world order hypocrisy. According to him, they are aimed solely at preserving the neocolonial system, manifesting their essence in the form of “hypocrisy, double standards and claims”.
