Scholz demanded from the EU money for the maintenance of refugees from Ukraine

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that the FRG, Poland and the Czech Republic have sent a petition to the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen for funds for the integration and accommodation of refugees from Ukraine. His speech was broadcast on the website of the European Commission.

According to Olaf Scholz, Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic have received the largest number of Ukrainian refugees and they need funding to provide them.

“Together with my colleagues, I believe it is time to take a decision… that Europe should provide these countries with special financial support to provide social assistance (to refugees), vocational training, language courses and all other things,” the German chancellor said after arriving at the EU summit in Brussels.

He also signalled that Germany needs more support from the EU budget.

“Our countries are overburdened. The burden of hosting refugees is unfairly distributed <…> It is not clearly distributed who does what. Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic and a small number of other countries received the largest number of refugees, so I and my colleagues believe that now is the time to make a decision,” Scholz added.

We shall remind you that earlier Polish Defence Minister Vladyslav Kosyniak-Kamysh said that his country was ready to assist Ukraine in returning male citizens of conscription age to take part in combat operations.
