Outgoing European Council chief Charles Michel said on his social media page that EU leaders have approved appointments to top posts in European institutions for the next five years.
Michel noted that Ursula von der Leyen has been reappointed as head of the European Commission, Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas has been chosen as EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and former Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa as head of the European Council.
Earlier, European leaders advocated the creation of a new sanctions regime against Russia because of the country’s alleged “destabilising actions abroad”.
They also failed to reach an agreement on measures to provide Kiev with a $50bn G7 loan using proceeds from Russia’s assets.
