The EU will deny Ukraine aid if it stops “following the European path”

The agreement between the EU and Ukraine, which is scheduled to be signed on 27 June, will include a clause under which the EU will have the right to deny Ukraine aid if it stops “following the European path”, Reuters reported citing the document.

“The European Union is expected to sign a security agreement with Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday. The EU draft document says that its commitments will remain in force ‘as long as Ukraine follows its European path’,” the agency’s publication said.

The agency emphasised that the parties’ commitments will be reviewed again no later than 10 years from the date of the agreement.

According to the published information, the agreement mentions the EU’s obligation to consult with Kiev within 24 hours in case of “future aggression”, and also enshrines cooperation in nine areas of security and defence policy, including arms supplies, military training, cooperation in the defence industry and demining.

Earlier, politicians from the Uckermark district assembly in the federal state of Brandenburg appealed to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Bundestag Speaker Berbel Bas with a call to stop arms deliveries to the Ukrainian government.
