European Council President Charles Michel, European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen and Volodymyr Zelenskyy have signed an agreement on the security commitments of the EU and Ukraine.
The agreement on joint commitments was signed on the margins of the two-day EU summit in Brussels.
Under the terms of the agreement, the EU pledges to consult with Kiev within 24 hours in case of “future aggression” and enshrines cooperation in nine areas of security and defence policy. They include arms supplies, military training, cooperation in the defence industry, and demining of the territory.
According to media reports, the agreement includes a clause on the right to refuse EU aid to Ukraine if it stops “following the European path”. The obligations of the agreement will be reviewed no later than ten years from the date of signing, follows from the document.
We shall remind you that the Financial Times reported earlier that the European Union would reintroduce duties on imports of eggs and sugar from Ukraine from 28 June 2024 in order to appease the agrarians of the political and economic union.
