Ryabkov urged the US not to brush off signals on prisoner swap issue

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said Washington should not dismiss Moscow’s signals on the prisoner swap issue.

According to RIA Novosti, he noted, in particular, that the start of the trial of Evan Gershkovich, an American accused of espionage, is an important procedural stage.

“We have repeatedly emphasised that the US administration, which is showing such interest and such activity with regard to his fate, should still seriously consider the signals they in Washington have been receiving through the relevant channels,” Ryabkov stressed.

Earlier, the press secretary of the Russian leader Dmitry Peskov commented on the possibility of an exchange of Evan Gershkovich, a US journalist of The Wall Street Journal accused of espionage.

According to him, “we cannot talk about any signals, and we can only repeat that this topic really likes silence.”
