NATO ambassadors confirm Rutte as new secretary general

Ambassadors of the North Atlantic Alliance member states have confirmed Mark Rutte as the new NATO secretary-general.

As TASS writes with reference to a statement of the alliance, the ambassadors of 32 NATO countries approved his candidacy for the post for the next five years.

“Ambassadors of NATO countries approved the candidacy of the Dutch prime minister for the post of the alliance’s secretary general,” the press service said.

Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said he was confident of completing his term as head of the North Atlantic alliance by October this year.

On 21 June, Rutte said that he would start work as NATO Secretary General after a leave of absence.
