Ruling coalition’s popularity falls due to support for Ukraine – Scholz

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that due to the sanctions policy against Russia and financial and military aid to Ukraine, the rating of the ruling coalition in Germany is dramatically declining.

“It is true that there are many citizens who do not agree that we support Ukraine, who also do not agree that we have imposed sanctions against Russia. But in my opinion, there is no alternative option, which is not to do that,” Olaf Scholz said in an interview with ARD TV channel.

According to the German chancellor, he has “always” been in favour of “prudence” and in favour of Germany using all opportunities for peaceful development “which will not mean the surrender of Ukraine”. The politician emphasised that he continues to adhere to this point of view.

At the same time, the head of the German federal government said that the Russian Federation seeks to change the established world order. Therefore, according to the FRG chancellor, this should not be allowed and, as a consequence, it is worth continuing to support Ukraine.

Just to remind you, Olaf Scholz said earlier that the escalation of the Ukrainian conflict was impossible due to the fact that German weapons would be used to launch strikes against the Russian territory near Kharkiv Region.
