Foreign Ministry: Russia demands withdrawal of US nuclear weapons from Europe

Russia continues to demand that the US withdraw all its nuclear weapons from Europe and eliminate the infrastructure for their deployment there, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

“Irrespective of the combat readiness of the armaments allocated to NATO’s joint nuclear missions, this extremely destabilising practice in itself continues to be the most serious problem for security on the continent,” the diplomat said.

Moscow’s demands are unchanged, “they include the withdrawal of all US nuclear weapons from Europe, as well as the elimination of the infrastructure available there for their deployment,” TASS quoted Zakharova as saying.

In the summer of 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the United States keeps 200 nuclear tactical warheads in Europe, they are located in six NATO countries, and 257 aircraft have been trained for their use.
