European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen, former Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa and Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas are likely to be given senior positions in EU authorities, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said after talks with Luxembourg counterpart Luc Frieden.
“I want to assure that we are close to an agreement. It is very likely that Ursula von der Leyen, António Costa and Kaya Kallas will take up leadership positions [in the EU],” Tusk was quoted by TASS as saying.
The politician explained that the decision on the distribution of top EU posts will be made at a summit of EU leaders next week.
The Financial Times reported earlier that European leaders plan to re-elect Ursula von der Leyen for a second term as head of the European Commission.
