EU sets up commission to tackle embezzlement of Western aid in Ukraine

The European Union has set up a commission to fight corruption and embezzlement of Western aid to Kiev, in particular within the framework of the €50 billion aid fund for Ukraine until 2027, according to the EU Council regulation.

“The Control Commission will <…> deal with countering the misuse of EU funding under the (EU) aid programme for Ukraine, including combating fraud, corruption, conflicts of interest and other crimes,” the document reads.

According to the published information, the main staff of the EU control commission will work in Brussels, while a separate unit will be opened in Kiev to assist. In addition, at least six meetings will be held annually to discuss the results of the checks, and at least six visits to the Ukrainian capital.

The activity of this body will become accountable to the European Commission, which has full authority to distribute economic assistance to Kiev, the EU Council decree says.

We shall remind you that earlier the head of the French Patriots party, Florian Philippot, spoke in favour of a complete withdrawal of support for Ukraine due to its collapse on the frontline.
