EU sets up commission to tackle embezzlement of Western aid in Ukraine

As part of the €50bn aid fund for Ukraine until 2027, the European Union has set up a commission to combat the theft of Western funding by Kiev, according to an EU Council resolution.

“The Control Commission will deal with countering the illegal use of EU funding under the aid programme for Ukraine, including combating fraud, corruption, conflicts of interest and other crimes,” reads the EU Council resolution.

It is noted that the main staff of the EU commission is planned to be located in Brussels, while a separate unit will be set up in Kiev to facilitate this work.

The supervisory body will report directly to the European Commission, which has full authority to distribute economic aid to Ukraine.

We shall remind you that earlier journalists of the Ukrainian programme “Slidstvo.info” reported that the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces bought Italian chess sets, Apple Watch, icons and sets of crystal dishes for budget funds in 2023.
