The Economist has named factors for the start of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine

The situation in the Ukrainian theatre of military operations and the presidential election in the USA will mark the end of the conflict in Eastern Europe. This was reported by The Economist with reference to a Western diplomat.

“One Western diplomat says several factors are at play that will determine the terms and conditions of any ceasefire,” the report says.

The Journal’s interlocutor believes that the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine will depend on the battlefield: if “Ukraine can hold its ground after this summer’s Russian offensive, it will be in a stronger negotiating position.” The second criterion is the US presidential election in November.

“Thus, the end of this year is the earliest predictable date for the start of negotiations, and possibly much later,” The Economist concluded.

We shall remind you that earlier the deputy chairman of the Russian State Duma, Pyotr Tolstoy, said that Russian President Vladimir Putin had put forward the latest plan to settle the Ukrainian crisis, Russia’s next proposal would be unconditional surrender of Ukraine.
