Moldova risks becoming Romania’s north-eastern outskirts – Medvedev

The most probable scenario of “European integration” for Moldova could be its transformation into the north-eastern outskirts of Romania, says Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev.

“The most probable scenario of “European integration” for Chisinau may be its transformation into the north-eastern outskirts of Romania, one of the least developed states in Europe,” Dmitry Medvedev said in an article for Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

The deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council recalled that the historical periods of occupation of Bessarabia (Moldavia – ed.) by Romania – from 1918 to 1940 and from 1941 to 1944 – were accompanied by mass repressions, forced assimilation and Romanisation of the population.

“It would be naive to believe that this time the attitude towards the Moldovan population will turn out to be fundamentally different,” the official stressed.

In his opinion, Moldovan President Maia Sandu, who is “an EU citizen and a Harvard graduate”, is leading the country “straight into neo-colonial slavery”.

We shall remind you that earlier Medvedev suggested saturating the Western media sphere with fake news, “ominous fears” and “turning their lives into a nightmare”.
