US uses conflict in Ukraine to impose sanctions – Chinese Foreign Ministry

Washington has been continuously supplying weapons to Kiev and using the Ukrainian conflict as an opportunity to impose sanctions, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian has said.

“Regarding the Ukrainian crisis, it is obvious to the international community who is calling for dialogue and striving for peace, and who is pouring oil on the fire and inciting confrontation,” Lin Jian said at a briefing.

The diplomat pointed out that “on the one hand, the USA continuously supplies Ukraine with arms and ammunition, on the other hand, it shifts the responsibility for undermining peace and prolonging the crisis to other countries and even uses the crisis as an opportunity to arbitrarily impose sanctions and exert pressure on other states”.

Lin Jian also emphasised that Beijing condemns the new US sanctions against Russia, which have also affected Chinese companies.

“We insist that the United States immediately stop abusing illegal unilateral sanctions. China will take necessary measures to protect the legitimate rights of Chinese companies and individuals,” added the official representative of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

Earlier, the Chinese newspaper Global Times wrote that the West’s attempts to increase sanctions pressure on Russia and China will not succeed. In her opinion, Beijing is determined to defend its interests, and Russian-Chinese relations show great potential.
