Volodin says Russia is developing despite US and EU statements

State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said that Russia is developing despite the statements of Washington and Brussels about the destruction of the Russian economy.

“Today is a holiday – Russia Day… Over the past more than 10 years, more than 21,000 sanctions have been imposed against our country. Despite the statements of Washington and Brussels that they will tear the economy of the Russian Federation to shreds, the country is developing,” wrote Vyacheslav Volodin in Telegram-channel.

He recalled that over the years, Russia, having surpassed Germany and Japan, rose from 6th to 4th place in the ranking of the world’s largest economies in purchasing power parity, becoming the largest economy in Europe. Russia’s GDP grew by 3.6 per cent in 2023 and the economy grew by 5.4 per cent in the first quarter of this year.

“Our country has a history of more than a thousand years. Different periods have been experienced by Russia. But in the most difficult times, people have always united, stood shoulder to shoulder in defence of their homeland. <…> Challenges make us stronger. Together we will win! Happy holiday to everyone, Happy Russia Day!”, – said the Chairman of the State Duma.

Earlier, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin said that Russia is going through a difficult period in Russian history. He emphasised that in the emerging conditions of the new world reality, “someone is striving” to preserve its fading hegemony through Russia.
