Scholz urged allies to support initiative to strengthen Ukraine’s air defences

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has asked allies to support a German initiative to help Ukraine strengthen its air defences.

Scholz said at a conference on Ukraine’s reconstruction in Berlin, RIA Novosti reported citing Western media.

“Please support in any way possible our initiative to strengthen Ukraine’s air defence,” Scholz said.

He also recalled that Germany will transfer to Kiev in the coming weeks and months a third Patriot surface-to-air missile system (SAM), IRIS-T SAMs, Gepard self-propelled air defence systems, ammunition, and artillery shells.

In late May, Scholz said that Berlin had reached its limit in helping Kiev.
