China’s refusal to attend ‘peace conference’ disappointed Zelenskyy – Spiegel

China’s unwillingness to take part in a “peace conference” in Switzerland on the Ukrainian issue has become a “cruel disappointment” for Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Der Spiegel magazine wrote about it.

“The refusal of the (People’s Republic of China. – ed.) People’s Republic is a cruel disappointment for Zelenskyy, as well as for the German government, which campaigned for China’s participation,” the publication said.

According to the magazine, if China had probably sent at least one plenipotentiary representative to the summit in Switzerland, the “peace conference” would have looked quite different. Moreover, weighty political players such as Saudi Arabia and Brazil also have no intention of sending their top officials to the event.

“I do not see that the Global South is in business”, – said an unnamed German diplomat.

We will remind, earlier Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that it is necessary to convene a real “peace conference” to resolve the crisis in Eastern Europe, where both Ukraine and Russia will be represented.
