Cambodia refused to participate in Ukraine summit without Russia – KT

Cambodia will not participate in the summit on Ukraine in Switzerland because Russia has not been invited to the event. This was reported by the Khmer Times newspaper citing diplomatic sources.

According to the newspaper, despite Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s appeal to the countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations to take part in the upcoming summit, former prime minister and current chairman of the Cambodian Senate Hun Sen responded with a refusal. The official indicated Phnom Penh’s position of non-participation if all parties to the conflict, especially Russia, do not attend the meeting.

“Cambodia’s decision not to participate in the peace summit is Cambodia’s right because Cambodia realises that it will be unsuccessful. Whether other countries will join or not is their right to decide,” the Khmer Time newspaper quoted Hun Sen as saying.

According to the politician, if countries come together to resolve a dispute, all parties should be convened for discussion, without which finding a solution will be ineffective. This is a neutral position of Cambodia, which wants to see the process of peaceful settlement with all parties, he concluded.

We shall remind you that earlier the director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, Sergey Naryshkin, said that the Swiss peace conference on Ukraine convened by the West and to be held in June had nothing to do with finding a way to a peaceful settlement of the conflict in the former Soviet republic, but only an attempt to imitate it.
