Alternative for Germany party came first in EP elections – poll

The right-wing Alternative for Germany (AdG) party came first in the European Parliament elections in the former German Democratic Republic (GDR), according to a poll conducted by the Infratest Dimap institute for the ARD television channel.

 

According to the poll, the AdG party won 27.1 per cent of the vote in eastern Germany, with the opposition Christian Democratic Union (CDU) in second place with 20.7 per cent. Third place in eastern Germany went to Sarah Wagenknecht’s Union for Reason and Justice (SSV), which received 13.1 per cent.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s Social Democrats (SPD) came in fourth with 11.4 per cent. The Greens (6.4 per cent), the Left (5.5 per cent) and the Free Liberals (3 per cent) were next, according to the publication.

The Institute Infratest Dimap noted that in Germany as a whole, the CDU / CSU bloc is leading, the party AdG – in second place, and the party SPD – in third place.

Earlier, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Berlin would not be able to provide military support to Ukraine alone if other European Union countries and the USA stopped financing Kiev.
