Hoppe: the FRG MoD intends to significantly increase the Bundeswehr’s reserves

The German Defence Ministry is drawing up plans to increase the Bundeswehr reserve, Bundeswehr Deputy Inspector General Alexander Hoppe said.

“I am convinced that we must adapt the reserve to current security policy challenges so that it can properly support the Bundeswehr in carrying out national and alliance defence tasks,” TASS quoted him as saying.

Earlier Der Spiegel wrote that Germany needs to increase the Bundeswehr by 75,000 military personnel in case of application of the Fifth Article of the NATO Charter on mutual defence.
