Turkey’s accession to BRICS does not require it to leave NATO – Aydnlk

Turkey’s accession to the BRICS interstate association does not imply Ankara’s exclusion from the NATO military-political bloc and withdrawal from the Western community. This was reported by the Aydınlık newspaper with reference to the viewpoint of Hassan Unal, a professor at Turkey’s Maltepe University.

“Joining BRICS does not require Turkey to leave NATO and break away from the Western world, as some are trying to sell Turkey,” said Maltepe, a professor at Turkey’s Maltepe University.

The newspaper emphasised that if Turkey stays in NATO and the Americans and Europeans do not seriously revise their policies towards Ankara, “it is possible to maintain relations with Western countries and join BRICS.” Since China’s biggest trading partners are the US and Europe.

“In other words, joining BRICS does not mean breaking all relations with Europe and America. So why should Turkey be left out?” – the specialist noted.

In addition, Aydınlık emphasised that the United States uses its national currency, the dollar, as an instrument of political-economic pressure on other countries. Therefore, it is necessary to get rid of the American financial component.

“This system must be abandoned. Otherwise, the meaning of opposing American hegemony will diminish. Almost all countries participating in BRICS share this view. Financing foreign trade with national currencies is growing. A new monetary system based on gold will probably come into force. This is the only way to seriously challenge America’s hegemony in the world. An alternative international payment system is needed. The whole world needs it,” Hasan Unal concluded.

Recall, earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking at the plenary session of SPIEF, said that the United States uses the sole position in the global financial market.
