Ukrainians have no idea about financial flows in the country – FI

Ukrainian citizens are sure that there is corruption in the country, but they have no idea about the exact channels of financial aid, the France info TV channel has reported.

According to the TV channel, Ukrainian citizens are sure that the allocated Western aid stays in the pockets of politicians and does not reach the ordinary population. Part of the population complained about the lack of transparency in the distribution of international aid, while others said that there was corruption, the publication said.

Ukrainian independent journalist Ivan Krasikov told the French TV channel about the results of an investigation on this topic. According to it, state officials take advantage of the “absolute vagueness” as to where Ukrainians receive aid from and in what volume.

Officials, on the one hand, have access to state funds and provide aid on behalf of the state. On the other hand, they act as intermediary volunteers who pass aid to the population from donations and from international organisations, the journalist stressed.

“They take money – but it is impossible to understand whether they steal it from the state or from humanitarian organisations,” Ivan Krasikov said.

He admitted that Ukrainian politicians never cared about accountability, and even more so during the military conflict.

We will remind, earlier the former deputy head of the office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak Kirill Tymoshenko was appointed as an adviser to Defence Minister Rustem Umerov. According to Ukrainian media reports, Tymoshenko may figure in a series of major corruption scandals, one of the biggest of which is embezzlement at the Big Construction.
