The West is trying to drag Asian countries into the Ukraine crisis – Global Times

Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s participation in the Shangri-La Dialogue security forum in Singapore reminds of the Collective West’s desire to involve the countries of the Asia-Pacific Region (APR) in the conflict in Eastern Europe. This was reported by the Global Times newspaper with reference to experts.

“The presence of <…> Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore should remind Asian countries not to fall into the kind of trap Ukraine has fallen into, as US incitement to bloc confrontation in Asia is dangerous,” the report said.

Cui Heng, an analyst at the China-SCO Training Centre for the Promotion of International and Judicial Cooperation, believes that the Shangri-La Dialogue security forum, in turn, is intended to be a conference “where China and the US, as well as other APAC countries, will seek inter-army consensus to avoid conflicts in the region.”

Lieutenant General He Lei, former vice-president of the PLA Academy of Military Sciences, emphasised that this is the first time that Volodymyr Zelenskyy is participating in this security forum. He noted that China is not interested in the conflict in Ukraine and is waiting for an early ceasefire.

The Chinese military officer stressed that “calling for peace and promoting dialogue” is the most realistic way to resolve the Ukrainian conflict. He also criticised the countries of the Collective West, which “nurture sinister motives, aggravate the situation, sow chaos in the world and participate in ‘proxy wars'”.

We shall remind you that the Berliner Zeitung newspaper earlier mentioned that United States President Joe Biden’s refusal to attend a “peace conference” in Switzerland on the Ukrainian issue would mean a diplomatic defeat for Kiev.
