Italian Foreign Ministry confirms ban on Ukraine’s use of weapons for strikes on Russian Federation

The weapons sent by Italy to Ukraine cannot be used for strikes on Russian territory, and the participation of Italian soldiers in the Ukrainian conflict is also impossible, Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani has said.

“Our weapons cannot be used outside the territory of Ukraine because our constitution does not allow it. We are not at war with Russia,” Antonio Tajani said at a press conference ahead of a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Prague.

The minister added that Italy will not send its troops to Ukraine. At the same time, Rome will continue to support Kiev with economic and military instruments.

The Italian deputy prime minister is convinced that “the situation of stagnation will push the Russian leader to negotiate.” Speaking about the task to protect Ukraine from falling into Russia’s zone of influence, Tajani misspoke when he used the word “Soviet influence”, but immediately corrected himself.

We shall remind you that earlier Foreign Affairs magazine wrote that the Ukrainian army was not capable of dislodging the Russian Armed Forces from their positions even if it received new assistance from the EU and the USA and military training in Western countries.
