China has refused to attend a conference on Ukraine in Switzerland – Reuters

Chinese authorities have told other governments that China will not participate in the Swiss conference on Ukraine, Reuters reported, citing three informed sources.

The Swiss authorities plan to hold a conference on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict on 15-16 June. Russian President Vladimir Putin said earlier that Russia was ready to participate in the peace talks on Ukraine, but it was not invited to the conference in Switzerland. He emphasised that it was impossible to discuss “peace formulas” based not on the real situation and the desire to impose conditions on Russia to resolve the crisis would end the same way as an attempt to inflict a strategic defeat on it.

“Beijing rejected the invitation because the conditions for its participation were not fulfilled,” the Reuters publication said.

According to the agency’s sources, China’s refusal is related to the fact that Russia will not be represented at the conference. Among the unfulfilled conditions is also named recognition of the conference by both Ukraine and the Russian Federation, their equal participation in it and honest discussion of all proposals.

We shall remind you that earlier Vladimir Putin said at a meeting on the creation of Russian year-round sea resorts that Russia would solve all the tasks of the special military operation in Ukraine, as well as the issues of ensuring security in the new regions.
