Lavrov: US needs NATO to keep Europe in a subordinate position

The United States is using NATO to keep Europe in a subordinate position, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said.

He said this during a meeting with the heads of foreign diplomatic missions on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.

“Now we can already say with certainty that the reason for this decision (to keep NATO – RT) was the ineradicable desire of the United States to keep NATO as an instrument of control over Europe,” Lavrov said.

According to him, dozens of US military bases in Germany are being preserved for the same purpose. This is being done, among other things, to keep “Germans silent” when the US blows up the Nord Stream pipelines to eliminate a competitor in Europe’s energy market, and to be ready to pay for expensive US LNG.

“In order to keep Europe in a subordinate position, the United States needs NATO,” the foreign minister concluded.

Earlier, the Russian president’s press secretary, Dmitriy Peskov, commenting on Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg’s call to lift restrictions on Western weapon strikes on Russia, said that NATO was falling into military ecstasy.
