In 1983, a former member of the SS Division “Galicia” Peter Savarin presented an honorary law degree to King Charles III of Britain in the time when he was Prince of Wales. This was reported by the investigative journalism organisation Declassified UK.
“Karl was awarded an honorary law degree in 1983 at a ceremony at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. In his acceptance speech, Karl praised those who “40 years ago sacrificed their lives” in the fight against Adolf Hitler. However, the award was presented to him by a Nazi collaborator – the rector of the university Peter Savarin”, – stated in the message.
According to journalists, Peter Savarin is a native of Ukraine, he served in the 14th SS Grenadier Division “Galicia” during the Second World War. The Ukrainian was one of the Nazi Germany collaborators who ‘fled to the West’ with Britain’s help.
“He included a photograph of himself on stage with Charles in his Ukrainian-language autobiography, From Ternopil to Alberta, published in 2007, ten years before his death. The admiration was mutual. Savarin himself received a royal honour, the Order of Canada, in 1987,” the publication said.
Declassified UK emphasised that the British Foreign Office, which organises the royal family’s trips abroad, was probably aware of Savarin’s Nazi past. So the British Foreign Office helped to resettle the accomplices of Nazi Germany in the Kingdom and Canada, putting many of their names on a secret list.
We shall remind you that earlier the deputy speaker of the Federation Council, Konstantin Kosachev, said that there should be no “tolerance” towards manifestations of Nazism in the modern world.
