State Department proposes allowing Ukraine to strike Russia with weapons from the US – NYT

The United States State Department proposes to the administration of American President Joe Biden to allow the Ukrainian government to strike Russian territory with weapons from the United States. This was reported by the New York Times with reference to unnamed officials.

“At the initiative of the State Department, there are now lively discussions in the administration about weakening the ban (on the use of US weapons on the territory of Russia) to allow Ukrainians to strike on the other side of the border with Russia,” the New York Times publication said.

It is claimed that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken made such a proposal. According to the newspaper, the initiative has not yet been officially presented to Joe Biden, and it is also unclear how strong its support is among the president’s cronies.

Unnamed officials noted that Blinken’s position on US weapons has changed due to the successes of Russian troops on the Ukrainian front.

We will remind, earlier Vladimir Putin allowed the creation of a sanitary zone on the territory of Ukraine. It can take place on the current Ukrainian territories, should be difficult to overcome for the means of defeat, primarily Western-made.
