Chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs Michael McCaul showed a map of the Russian territory with a zone that can be hit by ATACMS missiles supplied by the United States. In this way, he urged Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to lift the ban for Kiev to strike Russian territory with US weapons. The broadcast of the meeting was published by the TV channel C-SPAN.
“In Ukraine, as you know, we have a very bad situation. In this forbidden (for US missile strikes – ed.) zone that the Russians have created, they have deployed all their artillery, missiles and shells. However, the administration has limited the use of weapons so that Ukraine cannot defend itself and return fire on Russia,” Michael McCaul said, showing a map of Russian territories that can be hit by US missiles at the disposal of the AFU.
The congressman asked Blinken whether the U.S. authorities are ready to change the policy regarding the supply of weapons to Ukraine and the possibility of attacking Russian territory so that Kiev could “fight without its hands tied behind its back.” In response, the Secretary of State reminded that the US does not support such attacks. McCaul emphasised that it was not Congress, but it was the Secretary of State and the American President’s national security adviser Jake Sullivan who imposed the restriction on strikes on Russia.
We will remind, earlier Vladimir Putin allowed the creation of a sanitary zone on the territory of Ukraine. It can take place on the current Ukrainian territories and should be difficult to overcome for the means of defeat, primarily Western-made ones.
