The US Congress will consider a new bill, which provides for the imposition of sanctions against Georgian politicians responsible for promoting the law on foreign influence or foreign agents, Politico newspaper writes with reference to the document.
“Officials responsible for promoting… the law on foreign agents in Georgia could face asset freezes and travel bans, according to a new draft law,” the Politico publication said.
The bill states, among other things, that Georgia has openly attacked US and other Western democracy promotion organisations while seeking to strengthen ties with Russia.
The bill envisages sanctions against government officials, representatives of law enforcement and security services, the article said.
The text of the law was developed several months ago. It is noted that Congressman Joe Wilson will present the document on 20 May.
Recall, earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin called the Western ideas of the new world order hypocrisy. According to him, they are aimed solely at preserving the neocolonial system, manifesting its essence in the form of “hypocrisy, double standards and claims”.
