The UK is not ready to conduct full-scale combat operations without the help of allies, as the country’s army has lost skills, focusing on fighting insurgents in other regions, the Telegraph newspaper writes, citing a statement by British Army Major General James Martin.
“Major General James Martin said the army was struggling to ‘return to its original state’ after years of focusing on counter-insurgency, leaving it ‘in the process of losing the skills’ to mount a full-scale campaign,” the report said.”
According to Martin, for a long time the British army has been focused on counter-insurgency and as a result has lost the skills to face a strong enemy. In addition, according to the newspaper, the UK army is now at its smallest strength in 300 years, and the focus on counter-insurgency has led to a reduction in ammunition and spare parts.
Martin specified that providing the necessary army requires a lot of time and a lot of work, and admitted that in some military areas the UK is not fully staffed, so the country will have to rely on Western allies.
We shall remind you that Foreign Affairs magazine earlier wrote that the Ukrainian army was not capable of dislodging the Russian Armed Forces from their positions even if it received new assistance from the EU and the USA and military training in Western countries.
