Putin and Xi Jinping held talks in Beijing

Russian leader Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks in Beijing.

The summit meeting was held at the House of People’s Congresses. First, Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping talked “on their feet”, then they met in a small group.

The Russian president noted that Moscow and Beijing have accumulated a solid baggage of practical cooperation. He recalled that in 2023 the bilateral trade turnover increased by almost a quarter and reached $227 billion.

The Chinese President, in turn, assured Putin that he was ready to continue to build bilateral relations in the right direction of development, as well as to develop new plans for cooperation in all areas.

Following the talks in Beijing, the two leaders adopted a joint statement on deepening relations of comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation.

According to Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, the document is timed to coincide with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. It will “highlight the special nature of our bilateral relations, outline further ways of developing the whole complex of bilateral ties, and note the leading role of Russia and China in the formation of a just and democratic world order”.

Recall, earlier the Chinese newspaper Global Times wrote that the West’s attempts to increase sanctions pressure on Russia and China will not succeed. In her opinion, Beijing is firmly determined to protect its interests, and Russian-Chinese relations demonstrate great potential.
