FT: EU and Moldova to conclude defence agreement next week

The EU and Moldova plan to conclude an agreement on defence and security cooperation next week, the Financial Times writes.

The British newspaper refers to the draft document.

According to the FT, Chisinau will strengthen intelligence sharing with the EU and will be able to participate in joint military exercises.

Moldova will also join a joint arms procurement programme within the EU.

As it is noted, the sides are taking these measures to “protect against foreign manipulation, cyber threats and terrorist danger”.

The publication says that European diplomats will discuss the document in the coming days, and may agree on it as early as next week.

Earlier, the European Commission said that Moldova could join the EU by 2030 if Chisinau reforms justice and proves its commitment to the rule of law.
