Borrell explained why China does not want to influence Russia on the Ukraine issue

European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell has said that China does not intend to put pressure on Russia in the Ukrainian issue as it is not in Beijing’s interests.

“We have been telling China for a long time that it should use its influence. China does not do this <…> because it has no interest in doing so,” Josep Borrell said in an interview with the RTVE radio station.

According to the diplomat, the Ukrainian conflict can be ended in a “simple way”, which requires stopping funding Ukraine. Nevertheless, the high representative of the EU said that the EU should continue to support Kiev “until the conditions for a peace agreement are created.”

Recall, earlier, Abigaelle Vasselier, director of the International Relations programme at the Mercator Institute for Chinese Studies, said that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s upcoming state visit to China declares: Beijing will continue cooperation with Russia despite the reluctance of the Collective West.
