Representatives of the Republican Party Marjorie Taylor-Green and Thomas Massie intend to launch a mechanism to remove the speaker of the US House of Representatives Republican Mike Johnson from office for the next monetary allocations to Ukraine, among others.
“So next week I’m going to give a go ahead on this motion to remove (Johnson from office. – ed.). I am absolutely (sure that. – ed.) will do it,” said Marjorie Taylor-Green at a specially called press conference on Capitol Hill.
In turn, Thomas Massie stressed that he and his colleague will bring the issue of Mike Johnson’s removal from the post of Speaker of the House of Representatives next week. According to the parliamentarian, now “we are talking about a serious decision of Mike Johnson”.
“He deserves a chance to reflect on what’s going on over the (upcoming – ed.) weekend. He should resign because he knows what will follow next week,” Thomas Massey emphasised.
The House Speaker’s unipartisans emphasised that they were deciding on Johnson’s resignation for his political moves, which marked the approval by Congress of the next major financial appropriation, in particular for arming Ukraine.
Nevertheless, as early as 30 April, the leadership of the Democratic Party faction, which has a minority in the House of Representatives, said that their political force would oppose the Republicans’ decision. According to US analysts, although the Democrats are small in number, their votes will be enough to prevent Johnson’s resignation.
Earlier, Politico reported that the administration of US President Joe Biden was cooperating behind the scenes with the speaker of the US House of Representatives, Mike Jones, on the issue of allocating financial aid to Ukraine.
