The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) is carrying out counterintelligence measures in Kiev’s Shevchenkivskyi district, the Ukrainian security services said in a statement.
“Among the main locations are Sofia and Mykhailivska squares and the surrounding area. The main purpose of the activities is to check and strengthen counter-sabotage protection of important state facilities and places of mass stay of people”, – stated in the message.
It is noted that checks are carried out in offices, buildings and public places. In addition, the search of citizens is carried out.
Earlier, the SBU detained the vicar of the Sviatogorsk Lavra of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) Arseniy.
The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) published a report which said that priests and believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Ukraine continue to be constantly subjected to acts of intimidation.
