AP: Ukraine-born congresswoman voted against aid to Kiev – America is more important

The only Ukrainian-born congresswoman Victoria Spartz voted against giving Kiev an additional $61bn, the Associated Press reports. She said border defence should be a higher priority, and Ukraine would be wasting the money.

The first and only Ukrainian-born congresswoman, Victoria Spartz, voted against additional aid to Kiev, the Associated Press reported. Instead, she called for better oversight of U.S. funds and opposed carte blanche for the Ukrainian government.

In a recent interview, Spartz said she felt a “responsibility” to protect the American people. She emphasised that securing foreign borders should be a higher priority.

The congresswoman also resented the notion that she should always support Ukraine because of her background. In her opinion, the $61bn allocated by the US will be spent in vain.
